We’ve created this simple tutorial to help readers who might be new to the world of digital marketing, and might want some guidance when it comes to setting up a Facebook page specifically for their business.
A Facebook Business Account and Page is essential for online social media marketing, and skilful use of paid advertising on the platform has the potential to radically increase your profits.
To set up a Facebook Business page, you must already have your own personal Facebook account. For the purposes of this tutorial, we’re going to assume that you’re already on Facebook. If you aren’t already on Facebook, where have you been?!
Creating Your Facebook Business Account
Go to: the Business Account set up page and click the blue block that says “Create Account”
The popup block that appears will ask you to record your business name on page 1:
On page 2, you will input your name and business email:
Viola! You have now created the shell of your business account and it will look like this:
Now that your Business Account has been created, we can move onto creating your Business Page.
Creating Your Facebook Business Page
Return to the Business Manager Homepage, and select the “Add Page” button:
This will bring up three options to choose from:
- You can add a page that you already own (for instance, if you created the page directly from your personal Facebook profile. Not applicable for this tutorial).
- The middle option is if you need permission to add someone else’s Facebook page to your Business Manager (this is what ad agencies like Big Domino Marketing use to get access to work on our client’s accounts)
- The final option is create a new page. Yes! That’s the one we want. Don’t be shy! Select it NOW!
Selecting the Business Category for Your Page
Next up you have to select your business category. This is usually quite simple but if you make a mistake at this point don’t panic, you will be able to go back and change your choice.
Once you have selected the main classification of your business, you will be prompted to drill down to a more specific sub-category. If you don’t see your particular business listed, be sure to go back a step and select a different main category to see if your sub-category is listed there instead.
Once you’ve selected your subcategory category, you should receive this message and feel like celebrating!
You have created your Facebook Business Page! Congratulations!
How to Set Up an Ad Account in your Business Manager
Next up, you should create an Ad account so that you will be able to place paid advertising on Facebook. Go back to the home page of the business account and this time you will select the middle block out of the three:
Be sure to add your payment method otherwise you will be unable to place adverts or boost posts on Facebook (or Instagram for that matter).
Note: just because you set up the Ad Account and payment details, doesn’t mean that Facebook will start charging you. At this point, everything you’ve done is (at the time of writing this blog) 100% free. You will only be charged if you place paid adverts on the platform or if you boost posts from your Facebook business page.
Again, follow all the prompts to set up your Ad Account and you will receive the following message:
Be sure to go into “Business Settings” to add people to your page. Remember, you have to add staff and assign their roles according to the functions they are required to perform for your business.
As the owner, you should ensure that you have assigned yourself an “Admin” role to all functions within the Business Account.
Congratulations! You’ve created a Facebook Business Page and Business Account!
